    What is International Travel Insurance?

International travel insurance is a policy designed to cover unforeseen events during your trip abroad. It includes coverage for medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost baggage, and other travel-related risks. This type of insurance ensures you are financially protected and can enjoy your trip without worries.

Losing your passport or baggage in a foreign country, falling sick abroad, or missing a connecting flight can instantly turn your trip stressful. Overseas travel insurance acts as your financial safety net when unexpected events occur overseas, ensuring you are never left stranded.

With comprehensive coverage, you stay protected against major travel risks such as:

    1. Medical emergencies abroad

    2. Loss of passport or checked-in baggage

    3. Trip delays, cancellations, or curtailment

    4. Emergency assistance during unforeseen situations

In a post-pandemic world, travel uncertainties have increased, with people being more cautious about making international trips. This has made insurance more important than ever. A reliable international trip protection plan helps you explore the world with confidence and peace of mind.

Before booking your flight, always review the latest travel guidelines and secure yourself by purchasing international travel insurance from India, offered by Bajaj General Insurance.

    Features of International Travel Insurance

Having adequate travel insurance coverage ensures your safety while you are abroad. Here is a quick rundown of the key features offered under our international travel insurance plans:

    Plan for Every Age

The travel needs of every individual vary. For instance, the requirements of a student will differ from someone who is travelling alone or with family. With us, you can buy international travel insurance plans online, specific to your age, and with suitable benefits.

    Cover for Loss of Passport/Baggage

Losing your passport or baggage is scarier than it sounds. In case of complete and permanent loss of the checked-in baggage, we offer coverage for the same. In case you lose your passport we cover the cost that you will need to get a duplicate passport.

    Cover Against Home Burglary

While you are away from your home enjoying the vacation, a burglar may want to take advantage of the same. Having home burglary coverage offers compensation in case of a theft at your home in your absence.

    Cover for Trip-related Adversity

There could be a situation where you have to cancel your travel plan. It could be due to your falling ill, or any family emergency, etc. Having a valid international travel insurance secures you from financial expenses. It includes hotel room reservations, flight tickets, etc.

    Emergency Cash Advance

You may require emergency cash under an unforeseen event like theft/burglary of luggage or money. With our coverage, you may avail of cash benefits up to a specified limit when having an international travel policy.

    Personal Liability

Why Do You Need International Travel Insurance?

Many travellers underestimate the importance of international travel insurance, often considering it only when it is mandated by a country. However, overseas trips involve financial, medical, and logistical risks that can quickly escalate. From costly medical emergencies to lost passports, luggage, or travel scams, having the right coverage ensures peace of mind during your journey.

Countries like Cuba, Russia, and Schengen nations require travellers to have an international trip protection plan for visa approval. Beyond mandatory compliance, comprehensive coverage safeguards you against unforeseen events and expenses abroad, providing support when you need it most.

Medical Expenses Abroad Are Significantly Higher

Medical treatments outside India can cost 2 to 3 times more than domestic care. A robust travel medical insurance abroad ensures you receive quality treatment without worrying about exorbitant bills or out-of-pocket expenses.

Protection Against Lost Passports and Travel Documents

On trips, losing passports or essential documents can create serious problems. An overseas travel insurance policy offers support and compensation, helping you replace documents quickly and continue your journey with minimal disruption.

Coverage for Lost Luggage and Personal Belongings

Luggage, cash, or bank cards may get lost or stolen during travel. The right international travel insurance provides financial reimbursement, reducing stress and protecting your belongings from unexpected mishaps.

    Safeguard Against Travel Scams

Popular tourist destinations sometimes attract scams targeting travellers. A comprehensive international trip protection plan helps mitigate losses by offering financial coverage and assistance, keeping you secure while exploring abroad.

    Mandatory Requirement for Visa Approval

Several countries, including Schengen nations, Cuba, and Russia, require proof of international travel insurance as part of the visa process. Having a valid policy ensures compliance and smooth travel planning.

Peace of Mind During Your Journey

Travelling can involve uncertainties, from minor inconveniences to emergencies. Choosing the best international travel policy in India ensures you are financially and medically protected, allowing you to focus on enjoying your trip.

Please Note: When selecting your overseas travel insurance, consider company reputation, plan features, coverage limits, and 24/7 customer support. Choosing a reliable provider ensures timely assistance and proper protection throughout your travel.

Process of Choosing the Right International Travel Insurance

Whether you are buying single-trip travel insurance or multi-trip travel insurance, it does require a lot of research. To help you make an informed decision, listed below are some factors you should be mindful of while purchasing a travel insurance plan:

When to Choose International Travel Insurance?

The best time to choose and buy yourself an international travel insurance is just after you have booked your plane tickets. You should do this because you:

    1. Get enough time to compare options and choose what is best for you.

    2. Do not make a hasty decision if you have very little time to choose.

    3. Do not skip the step of getting insured.

Keeping the travel insurance purchase pending for the last minute can lead to a lot of stress and you making a bad choice.

Where to Buy International Travel Insurance From?

You also need to make sure that the insurer you are choosing for your insurance plan has all of these and better services:

    1. Good Customer Support: Has 24/7 customer support to solve all of your queries and confusion.

    2. Fast and Simple Claim Process: Has a simple claim process which can be used easily in crises.

    3. Digital Process: Has online or digital services to help access them from abroad.

    4. Good Claim Settlement: Has a high claim settlement ratio.

    5. Nice Reputation: Has a strong customer base and has positive customer reviews.

How to Choose International Travel Insurance?

When choosing the right international trip protection plan, you need to make sure you look into the following factors:

    Travel Destination

Travel insurance largely depends on the destination you have chosen. The requirement for coverage may vary from country to country. Some countries may not even permit a visa if you do not have sufficient international travel coverage.

    Trip Duration

Before you look for a plan, take into account the length of the trip. It is better to choose a plan of a duration exceeding the trip date. Just in case you need to extend the trip for a few days, you do not lose out on the cover.

    Number of People Travelling

If you are a solo traveller, pick an individual travel insurance plan. In case travelling with a family, you should go with a family travel insurance plan. Before buying a plan, count the number of travellers and accordingly customise it, based on the location. The international travel insurance cost will differ from plan to plan.

    Travel Frequency

The reasons for travelling could be different. However, if you are a regular traveller, you should think of selecting a multi-trip travel insurance plan. A plan like this will help you to enjoy the vacation without having to apply for a new travel plan every time. In case it’s going to be a one-time visit, opt for a single-trip travel insurance plan.

    Claim Limit

While opting for a sum insured, keep in mind the claim limit. With a low claim limit, in case of any medical emergency, insurance coverage won’t suffice. On the premise of where you are heading and for how long, pick a suitable sum insured for your international travel. A higher sum insured implies a higher premium, yet it is worth it in case of any unforeseen event.

Researching different international travel insurance companies and their offerings will help you find the most suitable plan for your travel needs.

Things You Should Know When You are Planning an International Trip

An international trip sounds exciting, yet planning for the same can be exhausting. Before you head out to your destination, jotted below are important things that you need to keep in mind:

    1. Check Passport Validity and Visa Requirements: Ensure your passport is valid for 6 months and review visa rules before starting your travel.

    2. Buy International Travel Insurance: Get travel insurance early to cover medical emergencies and other trip issues.

    3. Review Health and Safety Needs: Check required vaccinations and consider travel medical insurance abroad for emergencies.

    4. Keep Document Copies: Store digital and physical copies of passports, visas, and overseas travel insurance papers.

    5. Learn Local Etiquette: Understand basic customs, laws, and cultural norms to avoid misunderstandings.

    6. Pre-Book Essentials: Reserve hotels, transfers, and key activities to prevent last-minute issues.

    7. Check Baggage Rules: Review airline baggage limits and pack essentials wisely.

    8. Create a Trip Protection Plan: Save embassy contacts, emergency numbers, and international trip protection plan details to access at one click in times of crisis.

Is Travel Insurance Mandatory for International Travel?

It is important to understand that travel insurance is not mandatory to enter every foreign country. However, it is a wise decision to get travel insurance before international trips.

Wondering which countries require travel insurance? To avoid any confusion, contact the embassy or consulate of the destination you are planning to visit. The table below has the names of the countries where travel insurance is a mandate:
